Fantastic last day of our Holiday

Friday, 27 April 2012

We had a fantastic holiday despite the rain, but sadly the last day came. We started our day by visiting the chateau at La Rochefoucauld. We've been meaning to get there on each of our visits, but this time we were determined to go. It's a lovely building steeped in history overlooking the town. What I really liked were the family photos in each of the rooms. The chateau is still used as a home. I love the room with the little chair and the painted cupboard doors. I wonder what was behind them?

We followed our visit with a meal at Café du Coq d'Or. Another 5 course meal with wine filled us up nicely. We had a list of goodies to buy for family and friends, so next was a visit to the supermarket to stock up on confit, pate, cheese, chocolates and sweets.

Our evening was spent with Nigel and Diane who have made their home in this lovely part of France. I "met" Diane's via her blog, while reading all about their renovations, bike rides and village visits. Diane also enjoys cooking, so take a look at look her recipes too. We were made very welcome and felt at ease straight away. Diane made a yummy quiche plus nibbles for us which went down very well especially with 3 glasses of red and a cognac! We had decided we would only stay until around 8, as we didn't want to outstay our visit, but after loads of chatting we were still there at 11 !! Thank you both for a fantastic evening, the jam and the inks. Hope to meet up again soon and maybe join you in a repas.

Baby on the Way

Tuesday, 24 April 2012

I was asked to make a card for the leader at our local pre-school who is off on maternity leave. I love this cut from the Cricut New Arrivals cartridge but I don't actually have the cartridge. Had a hunt online but discovered it been discontinued. Not to beaten, I found a silhouette of the cut online, downloaded it, printed it out and then spent a couple of hours cutting out all the pieces. I was really pleased how it turned out and it saved me a few £'s too :)

Yummy French Food

Thursday, 19 April 2012

One of the great things about France is the food. We called in spontaneously  to La Cote qui Descend in St Sornin, just up the road from where we are staying. It was packed with local workman, always a good sign of good hearty food. We went for the plat du jour as it's such good value and for 11€ you get a starter, soup, main course, cheese, a dessert plus wine. There were 5 main courses on offer the day we visited - Boeuf Bourguignon, Pork Curry, Salmon, Chicken Gizzards and Veal plus assorted accompaniments. All looked delicious and the ones we choose, beef and pork, were. Highly recommended. The clock near the bar was so quirky, I had to take a photo.

Charente Walk and Ride

Tuesday, 17 April 2012

Thankfully the weather is holding out so far, so we've managed to walk and ride. Here's a few things we spotted along the way.

I saw this lovely tree near Rouzede with it's twisted trunk. I wonder how they grow like that.

                                        Beautiful view taken at L'Epardeau
Monument with the church behind at Rouzede.
Cute little well at Chez Brucher. Then we saw it for sale along with it's barns.

Cuttlebug Spot - Easel Card

Easel cards are so easy and fun to make and I had great fun making this card. If you've not made one before here's a tutorial. I'm sure you could adjust the sizes to fit the envelopes you have. I went for a masculine theme as I'm really low on cards for men. It would make a great children's card too. So that's my challenge for you over at the Cuttlebug Spot - Create an Easel card. Don't forget to pop on over to see the other teamies cards.

Materials used - White and green cardstock, Cricut plus Create a Critter, Cuttlebug plus Sail On embossing folder, Forever Friends The Good Life paper pack, Dovecraft Family Tree stamps, Memento Tuxedo Black ink, Assorted chalk inks, Blue brush marker, Button and Twine.

Nice Walk

Thursday, 12 April 2012

I been a bit of a quiet week for me, but we did manage to go for a lovely 4 mile walk around the fields where we live. I did manage to snap this photo of Chichester Cathedral between the trees. Off to do a bit of packing as we go to France tomorrow.

Cuttlebug Spot - Sketch

Tuesday, 3 April 2012

I don't think we've ever done a sketch at the Cuttlebug Spot before (well not while I've been on the team), so here is a sketch that I created for you. Please make a project for any occasion. You can rotate the sketch if you wish, but we need to see the layout clearly. I love the creamy pastel colours on my card, good enough to eat.
